#A to Z Challenge Letter G is for Golden Retriever, Ginseng and glade

G is for Ellie, our Golden Retriever. She loves walking to the woods, getting in the water and digging up moles. When we have a party, Ellie greets every visitor to get some petting. She watches over us, only barking when she thinks something is wrong. She is an escape artist so we have spent a good amount of time searching the neighborhood for her. We got her from a kennel when she was almost 3 years old. Here is Ellie

G is for Ginseng, American ginseng which is native to eastern North America and found widespread in the Appalachian and Ozark regions. The Native Americans used the forked toots and leaves for medicinal purposes. Cold-fX is made from the roots of this plant. This slow growing plant is pictured below with the fruit. I was told this particular plant was about 7 years old.

G is for Glade
Glades are hot, sunny, thin-soiled, rocky places in upland areas. Glades occur in the Ozarks of Missouri. The bedrock is solid and hard. Few trees grow on a glade. Some animals and plants love the glades;  collard lizard, striped bark scorpion, lichen grasshopper, coneflowers, primrose and side oats gamma.

    1. Thank you! I'm sorry you don't currently have a Golden, the dogs are like children. Ellie has been sick and clingy. She is now on the mend and venturing around the yard.

    1. Yes, she is! Once they were tying the gate and she watched as they pulled the end of the rope and the knot came undone. She just looked at them and grinned.

  5. She looks lovely. I'm sure she's just patrolling the neighbourhood to make sure everything's in order when she goes walkabout.
